One extended journey circling the Land Down Under was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the personnel became aware the passenger was missing.

An extensive rescue mission found her remains the following day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, alongside police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" banning any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Occurrences

The vessel first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the voyage - were transported there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or snorkeling.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the liner left the island after an scheduled tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she characterized her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"According to scant facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She continued that she hoped the inquiry would be able to identify what "the organization should have done that might have protected Her being".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum became unwell on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the vessel left, seemingly without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, mother passed away, alone."

Operator Response

In a statement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with authorities to support their investigation".

He stated that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 crew, according to official information. It was specifically designed to access isolated regions of Australia's coast and is equipped with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on land visits.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have protocols to record which individuals are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard just isn't an option," one expert commented.

Shipping companies regard these processes with great importance and have "clever tech in place to stop such events from occurring," the specialist added.

"This is presumably a shocking - and tragic - isolated incident."
